Teacher and textiledesigner - Dion Osté, 2025
Craftsmanship appears in many fields, from traditional crafts and technology to construction, agriculture and education. Amongst many others.
For the advisory programme ‘No transition without craftsmanship!’, students Dion Osté, Roos Vonk and Femke Rutgers portrayed craftspeople from the Dutch province of Overijssel.
'It was a really fun and educational project. A great step into a different art world. It was sometimes challenging, but also very inspiring to speak with these craftspeople and capture their work. I learned a lot and really enjoyed collaborating with Roos and Femke.'
- Dion Osté, student
The nine portraits are the result of conversations the students had with professionals from a wide range of fields, from a thatcher to a teacher and a textile designer.
With the exhibition, the Social and Economic Council (SER) aims to highlight the importance of craftsmanship and increase appreciation for skilled professionals.
The works can be seen until the end of May 2026 in the SER building on Bezuidenhout in The Hague. Visitors can find the portraits in the corridor near the meeting rooms on the ground floor and in the Pous Hall on the first floor.
The exhibition was previously shown at the provincial government building in Zwolle, the SDG House in Deventer, the FNV Trade Union House in Doetinchem, the Regional Practical Academy in Steenwijkerland and the Achterhoekse Poort Library in Aalten.
